3 Tips to Eliminate Bad Breath

Do you often have to check to see if you have bad breath? Tired of eating mints all day long with little benefit? Bad breath is a common problem in America due to various reasons, from poor dental hygiene to diet. Luckily, with these 3 tips you can kiss bad breath goodbye:

  1. Improve Dental Care Routine

A lot of patients we see at Hanley Family Dentistry suffer from bad breath due to poor dental hygiene habits, which can be easily avoided by keeping up with your at home dental care routine. We recommend using a soft toothbrush and brushing a minimum of twice a day. While brushing your teeth, be sure to also brush your tongue. Did you know your tongue is a great place for bacteria to live? It makes the perfect environment for bad breath. Food debris and plaque also commonly get stuck between teeth, so we recommend flossing at least once a day.

  1. Use Mouthwash

Not only can mouthwash immediately freshen breath, it can also help remove bacteria, plaque and debris from your mouth. Leaving leftover debris in your teeth after meals can actually feed bacteria, increasing the foul odor attributed to bad breath. We recommend having mouthwash with you when you can’t brush your teeth after meals to rinse your mouth and help get rid of any debris and bacteria that may be leftover. This can help prevent bacterial overgrowth and bad breath.

  1. Drink More Water

Did you know most Americans don’t drink enough water daily? Dehydration, dry mouth and lack of saliva can have negative effects on your teeth, gums and overall oral health. Drinking water can help wash away food debris, bacteria and plaque, which are all culprits of bad breath.
