DENTAL CROWNS IN CHESTER, VA
A dental crown (tooth crown) is a cosmetic restoration used to strengthen and/or improve the shape of a tooth. They are a type of “cap” used to cover and restore a tooth from the gum line up.
USES OF DENTAL CROWNS
Crowns are a common cosmetic solution and are used for many reasons besides strengthening and improving the shape of a tooth. For example, dental crowns help in the attachment of a bridge, by serving as anchors on adjacent teeth to hold the bridge in place. Crowns are also used to improve the appearance of a discolored tooth. They can even be used to help support a large filling that may be necessary for a severely decayed tooth.
CREATING THE TOOTH CROWN
Your crown is created inside of a professional dental laboratory by a specialized dental technician. They use the molds and impressions we take from your teeth to create and sculpt a customized crown made specifically for your tooth. This is so your normal bite and jaw movements continue to function regularly after the crown has been fitted and bonded to your tooth.
FITTING THE TOOTH CROWN
Once the crown has been created, we will test the crown in a fitting, in which we will determine if the crown has the correct fit. If so, we will continue to cement the crown over the affected tooth. It is in this way that the crown becomes the new outer surface of your tooth.
